LNAT preparation resources: books, courses and free practice
Start with the LNAT Consortium’s free preparation materials, practice tests and sample essays. The Consortium does not recommend paying for coaching and does not endorse third-party resources. A book or course is optional: choose one only when its sample explanation or feedback solves a problem you have identified. Official source (accessed 2026-09-24).

The Consortium recommends reading and thinking about arguments. Reading alone is not our suggested session: make an inference, challenge an assumption, then write a justified response. The official preparation page supports this focus; the routine here is our teaching suggestion.

How to choose a book or course
- Check a sample explanation before buying. It should explain why the attractive wrong answer fails.
- Check the edition against the current official format. Do not rely on a cover that only changes the year.
- For essay marking, ask for an anonymised sample, the feedback turnaround and the number of revisions included.
- Record the full price, access expiry, renewal and refund terms. Compare the same duration and service.
- Keep a separate record of official first attempts, repeats and third-party practice. Do not pool them into a predicted real score.
Arbitio and LNAT Ninja comparisons should begin with those checks. Published prices do not establish difficulty or effectiveness. We do not convert either provider’s practice marks into an LNAT result. A harder-feeling paper is not evidence of a better course or a calibrated score prediction.
What useful feedback looks like
Worked example Repair an argument
Original teaching example. A student writes: "All university lectures should be recorded because some students miss lectures." What is missing?
Why this works: The reason supports giving absent students access, but the conclusion covers every lecture. A stronger version identifies the benefit, considers cases involving confidential discussion or participation, and explains whether an exception is justified. The next draft should narrow or defend the word "all".
Why the tempting route fails: Adding impressive vocabulary leaves the reasoning unchanged. Saying "include more examples" without identifying the gap also leaves the writer unsure what to revise.
Use a purchase decision as a learning decision
Try a passage, review every uncertain answer and plan an essay before deciding what to buy. Name the obstacle: finding the conclusion, distinguishing an inference from an assumption, or developing a counterargument. Then choose a resource with a demonstrable response to that obstacle.
With a short preparation window, avoid collecting more materials than you can review. With a longer window, alternate focused repair with fresh mixed practice. Neither plan promises a score gain or requires a particular number of purchased mocks.
