The truth about LNAT past papers
The Consortium publishes two paper versions of its official sample tests. They are practice material, not released live sittings, and the old answer-choice count differs from today's test.
Exactly what official practice exists

The old papers and the current screen differ
The official practice page says the sample questions show possible answers, while the live test now uses . The reasoning still transfers, but the chance baseline and elimination feel differ.
Use the PDFs for close reading, option discrimination and full-paper stamina. Use the simulator for the current pane layout, flag control, timer and the irreversible move into Section B.
Use two papers without wasting either
- Open the simulator before measuring yourself. Learn the controls while the score means nothing.
- Sit Paper for the full minutes and record accuracy by passage.
- Label every miss: qualifier, inference, conclusion, tone, detail, principle or time.
- Repair the repeated label with original practice rather than reopening Paper .
- Keep Paper untouched until your method is stable enough for a genuine final rehearsal.
Worked example The qualifier carries the answer
A university proposes recording lectures. The author accepts that recordings help absence and revision, but argues that mandatory recording may reduce candid discussion in small seminars. The policy should therefore distinguish large lectures from discussion-led teaching.
Which claim best expresses the conclusion?
- All teaching should be recorded.
- No teaching should be recorded.
- Recording policy should depend on the teaching format.
- Students never speak freely when a camera is present.
Why this works: The third answer preserves the distinction that controls the author's policy.
Why the tempting route fails: The other options erase the qualification or turn a possibility into an absolute claim.
Use adjacent material with a transfer label
- Official LSAT reading material can train passage-bound inference, although passage length and calibration differ.
- Quality comment writing can train claims, reasons, assumptions and counterarguments when you annotate the reasoning rather than memorise facts.
- Third-party mocks can add stamina when they are labelled as original simulations and never sold as leaked sittings.
