What the score means
LSE has no set minimum. It normally uses Section A in holistic assessment but reserves the right to assess any essay. The essay replaces UGAA for LLB applicants whose qualifications would otherwise require that assessment. Official source (accessed 2026-09-24)
Preparation, editorial advice
Prioritise passage reasoning, but prepare a complete essay too. Classify errors by the faulty inference and explain the correct answer without consulting the solution. Non-standard qualification applicants should give written argument practice particular attention.
Three common questions
Can I skip the essay?
No exemption is stated. LSE reserves the right to assess any essay and uses it for some qualification routes. Official source (accessed 2026-09-24)
What score guarantees an offer?
There is no set minimum in LSE’s policy. The multiple-choice score is one part of holistic assessment. Official source (accessed 2026-09-24)
Can I reuse a previous year’s result?
No. LSE says results cannot carry over to a new application cycle. Official source (accessed 2026-09-24)
