How we work this out
What it does
What percentile your LNAT score is among all candidates (from the last published national data) and among Oxford Law applicants, shown separately.
Whole-number LNAT multiple-choice scores from 0 to 42, placed against two separate groups: every candidate in 2014-15 (6,992) and 2015-16 (7,849), the last years with published national figures, and the 2,017 Oxford Law applicants who sat the LNAT in 2024-25.
Method
- National: the LNAT technical reports give the average and spread of reported scores on each of five test forms. We draw a normal curve for each form on whole scores 0 to 42, weight each by its number of candidates, and add them up.
- Your percentile is the share below your score plus half the share on it (a midrank), so 27 is about the 78th percentile in 2015-16, not the 64th that 27/42 correct might suggest.
- Oxford applicants: we count everyone below your score on Oxford's chart plus half of those on it. Scores below 10 and 37 or above are grouped on the chart, so there we take the middle of the group.
- The scenario range asks what happens if today's candidates average up to 2 marks higher or lower, or are 15% more or less spread out, than in 2015-16.
