Which universities require the LNAT for 2027 entry?

Nine UK universities use the LNAT: Bristol, Cambridge, Durham, Glasgow, King's College London, LSE, Oxford, SOAS and UCL. IE University, SUSS and O.P. Jindal Global Law School also use it under their own conditions. Using the LNAT does not mean every applicant needs it: Glasgow and SOAS have exceptions.

Do joint honours and law with a language courses need the LNAT?

At every university here except SOAS, the joint and language courses we checked follow the main law rule and need the LNAT. That includes Oxford's Law with Law Studies in Europe, UCL's law with French, German or Hispanic law, King's Politics, Philosophy & Law and its English Law with French, German, Spanish or Hong Kong law, Bristol's Law and Modern Languages and Glasgow's joint degrees. LSE needs it for the LLB only.

Do I need the LNAT if I already have a degree?

At Glasgow, no: the LNAT is required only from applicants who do not already hold an undergraduate degree, and its two-year graduate LLB is exempt. SOAS's pages exempt only A-level, IB and similar school applicants and do not mention graduates, so ask SOAS. The LNAT's 2026-entry list said SOAS's LLB Senior Status did not need it, but that is not yet confirmed for 2027. The other universities here state the requirement for all applicants to the courses listed.

Does SOAS require the LNAT?

Not if you apply with A-levels, IB or similar school qualifications. It is required if you apply with an Access to HE Diploma, a Foundation course or Level 3 BTEC. SOAS does not say whether graduates need it. SOAS says a promising optional LNAT can lead to a lower offer.

How do universities use the LNAT essay?

The essay is not marked by the test centre and does not count towards your LNAT score out of 42. Universities receive it and use it their own way. Oxford tutors mark it, an Admissions Tutor marks it at UCL where it carries considerable weight, Bristol staff mark it and Durham always considers it. LSE usually does not. Cambridge, King's, Glasgow and SOAS publish no separate essay policy.

When do I have to sit the LNAT?

By the earliest deadline on your list. For 2027 entry: Oxford and Cambridge 15 October 2026; King's, LSE and UCL 31 December 2026; Bristol and Durham 13 January 2027; Glasgow and SOAS 25 January 2027. You can sit the LNAT only once per cycle.
